A wiki is a website which can be edited by one or more people. The wiki creator decides if he or she will invite others to collaborate on the site. PBworks is a popular wiki platform, offering free wikis (which they call workspaces) to educators. Having a simple-to-use and easy-to-update website for a project, classroom, or school allows teachers and students to focus on the content of the site, not the technology.
Since wikis are websites, they are used for communicating and posting just about anything. From wikis full of icebreaker activities to wikis for third graders studying simple machines, these quick-to-setup websites are all the rage. Check out some of the sample wikis below. Notice how wikis can contain text, links, images, movies, PDF downloads, and more.
